‘Freewheeling’ pilot project launched at NMMU

The sun is working hard at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) where a new cost-saving bicycle and scooter pilot project is about to be launched. Freewheeling will see an initial ten staff members use solar battery-powered bicycles and scooters to get around North and South campuses, while their vehicles remain under a new covered parking

A voluntary crime fighting initiative started by a proactive group of people in Mpumalanga’s Mbombela Municipality has drastically improved safety in the area and has been pivotal in making police efforts more effective.

SA economy grows by 3.2%

South Africa’s economy expanded to a growth rate of 3.2% in the fourth quarter of 2011, Statistics SA said on Tuesday. This was up from a revised 1.7%, said Gerhardt Bouwer, executive manager national accounts at Statistics SA in Pretoria.
